WNC-MOAA Supports Veterans at Asheville Veterans Restoration Quarters After Hurricane Helene
In the wake of the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, the Asheville Veterans Restoration Quarters (VRQ) suffered catastrophic damage, displacing its veteran residents. Many lost everything they owned except for what they could carry during the urgent evacuation just before floodwaters overtook the property.

WNC-MOAA Member Lt. Col. Ed Cottrell Honored with the French Legion de l’Honneur
On July 9, 2024, the peaceful setting of Grace Brevard Church in Brevard, NC, became the stage for a momentous occasion as Lt. Col. Ed Cottrell, USAF (Ret.), a distinguished WWII P-47 Thunderbolt pilot, was awarded the French Legion de l’Honneur Medal by French Consul General Anne-Laure Desjonquères.
