WNC-MOAA Supports Veterans at Asheville Veterans Restoration Quarters After Hurricane Helene

In the wake of the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, the Asheville Veterans Restoration Quarters (VRQ) suffered catastrophic damage, displacing its veteran residents. Many lost everything they owned except for what they could carry during the urgent evacuation just before floodwaters overtook the property.

WNC-MOAA Member Bob Johnson’s Vision Realized: The Henderson County Wall of Honor

On August 15, 2024, the long-anticipated Henderson County Wall of Honor was officially unveiled at the

Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans Center in Hendersonville, NC. This meaningful project, led by

WNC-MOAA Chapter member Bob Johnson, has been years in the making and now stands as a lasting tribute to the

veterans of Henderson County.

WNC-MOAA Member Lt. Col. Ed Cottrell Honored with the French Legion de l’Honneur

On July 9, 2024, the peaceful setting of Grace Brevard Church in Brevard, NC, became the stage for a momentous occasion as Lt. Col. Ed Cottrell, USAF (Ret.), a distinguished WWII P-47 Thunderbolt pilot, was awarded the French Legion de l’Honneur Medal by French Consul General Anne-Laure Desjonquères. This prestigious recognition—France’s highest order of merit for military and civil achievements—honors Ed’s incredible service and bravery during World War II.
