WNC-MOAA

Western North Carolina Chapter MOAA

President‘s Welcome

Welcome to WNC MOAA and our website! I hope you will find plenty of information here to help you get acquainted or to update your calendar. Founded in 1968, WNC MOAA was incorporated as an affiliate into National MOAA in 1969 and has continued as an active and thriving chapter for 50+ years. WNC MOAA, like National MOAA, is a totally non-partisan organization; our only interest is in supporting active duty members, veterans and their families.

We remained agile during the worst of COVID-19. We conducted two 100% outreaches to our members. We beefed up our website, your board met "virtually" and we had one "hybrid" (outdoor) satellite meeting, three virtual chapter meetings, and held in-person chapter meetings at wineries. Since restrictions were relaxed, we found a permanent home (see below) and have returned to regular meetings.

Keeping in mind necessary safety precautions, we have enjoyed the opportunities to get back together to catch up with friends, find out what’s going on in the chapter, and hear an interesting guest speaker. We’ve had some extraordinarily great guest speakers! We have all enjoyed the food, fun and fellowship and the inspiration we draw from one another to never stop serving.

We had been in search of a new "home" for the past two years as our normal venue, the Hendersonville Country Club, decided to no longer support activities for non-members. However, our old friend from HCC, Patrick Necessary, helped us find a new "home" at Kenmure Country Club, 100 Clubhouse Drive, in Flat Rock, where he was the manager. He has since moved on and we wish him the best of luck!

I like to think of our continued commitment to serve as a multifaceted jewel that radiates light in all directions, from the heavy lifting done on the National level all the way down to the personal level of neighbor helping neighbor. President John F. Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” From the day we raised our hand to serve until today, as MOAA members, we do exactly that. We ask what can we do to help? And we find a way.

I look forward to our time together and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Donna Culp, CAPT, USAF (Fmr) President
