Rod enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1957. He attended college at Oklahoma Baptist University, majoring in Biology & Chemistry. In 1961, he attended U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. After five years of active service in the Navy and 22 additional years in the Naval Reserve, Rod retired with the rank of Commander. In his civilian career, he worked for The Upjohn Company and later Bayer Healthcare in Medical Sciences Liaison, serving in sales and marketing positions. During his civilian career, he lived Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, and Texas. Interests include: Golf, fly fishing, choral music, civic/church projects, and serving veterans and their families through the Military Officer Association (MOAA), and hiking in the beauty of North Carolina. Although retired, Rod continues to serve as a Real Estate Broker in North Carolina. He and his wife make their home in Hendersonville, NC.
