President's Welcome

On behalf of the members of the Western North Carolina Chapter of the Military Officer's Association of America (MOAA), I would like to welcome you to our chapter website.  It is easy to navigate and provides a sense of who we are, what we do, and when we do it.  WNC MOAA is very large geographically and membership.  Our area of responsibility covers 17 counties in the western part of North Carolina, and our membership averages between 180 and 200.  We are the largest chapter in North Carolina that is not in an area with an active military base nearby.

Our chapter meets quarterly for lunch and a program.  We also support local veterans in several ways that provide hands-on opportunities for participants.  Our programs include preparing and serving meals at the Veterans Restoration Quarters (VRQ), a shelter for homeless veterans; supporting veterans at the Asheville VA Hospital, and conducting veterans' pinning ceremonies at the local Hospice facility.  We also support 18 high school JROTC programs throughout our area.

Our chapter has two satellite organizations, the Smoky Mountains Satellite in Waynesville, and the Black Mountain Satellite in Black Mountain.  Satellite members often choose to attend local events instead of coming to Hendersonville, which is a long distance from those areas.

We are also proud of our efforts to support the Legislative Affairs program of national MOAA.  We provide our legislators with MOAA's top issues to assist them in preparing to vote on national defense legislation.

We are a two-time recipient of MOAA's 5-Star Level of Excellence streamer recognizing our long time commitment to the goals and ideals of national MOAA

I encourage you to take a look at the website.  I believe you will agree that it depicts a chapter whose members enjoy comradery with fellow retirees, Surviving Spouses and former officers and guests, in our collective efforts to "Never Stop Serving" America's heroes.
